Hi! 👋 I’m Ivy Sutton
Christian, Mom, Wife, Educator & Birth Doula
I live in Pollocksville, NC with my two baby girls, husband, and three dogs! I grew up in Edenton, NC until I graduated high school and moved to Raleigh. I attended NC State University for both undergrad and graduate school…GO PACK! I am a former high school Spanish teacher (Sí, hablo español) and current instructional designer for the state. Education has always been in my blood—I love learning new things and sharing them with others in a way that actually makes sense. I love spending time with my family and friends, going to the beach, and watching Netflix!
The birth story of Sutton They Don’t Teach…
After getting married and coming off hormonal birth control, I had a shocking realization: I knew almost nothing about my own body. I mean, how did I make it this far without understanding how my cycle actually works? Turns out, I wasn’t alone—every friend I talked to was just as confused. None of this had been taught to us growing up, and I decided that just wasn’t okay.
So, I launched Sutton They Don’t Teach in early 2022 and dove into educating others on cycle health and tracking. It felt empowering to learn and share what should’ve been common knowledge all along.
Then, late in 2022, I got pregnant—and boom! Once again, I realized how much I didn’t know. Pregnancy, labor, birth... it was a whole new world of “they don’t teach this either!” So, true to form, I leaned in and became a student of all things birth. And somewhere along the way, I totally fell in love with it.
In April 2023, I gave birth to my first baby girl, and it was incredible. Sure, it was hard and long (like, really long), but I had prepared mentally and physically and surrounded myself with the support I needed—my amazing husband and our rockstar doula. Despite all the horror stories I’d heard, my experience was the opposite: powerful, beautiful, and affirming. I actually looked forward to giving birth—and I want that for every woman.
Eighteen months later, I welcomed my second baby girl during a peaceful homebirth. Those two experiences completely transformed me. I don’t want women to fear birth—I want them to feel empowered, informed, and supported every step of the way.
Not long after my first birth, I enrolled in the Childbirth International Doula Training and attended my very first birth as a doula. I knew instantly—I was made for this work.
I believe every woman deserves an autonomous, joy-filled birth she can look back on and say, “That was amazing. I can do anything.”
If you’re pregnant and want a positive, well-supported birth experience, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
